Newlywed Game: 150 Questions, Scored for You
Play on one phone, host a party or run it at a shower.
Quick answer
In the newlywed game, one partner answers a question about themselves in secret and the other guesses the answer; a match scores points. Play it above on one phone (type your answers in secret or say them out loud), host it for several couples, or run the classic bridal shower version with answers recorded ahead. Below are 150 questions in five decks: classic, funny, not so newlywed, shower and cheeky but PG.
Newlywed game questions ask one partner something about themselves while the other guesses the answer. When the answers match, the guesser scores. Play the free game above: choose Two of us to play on one phone with no host, Party to host up to 8 couples at an anniversary or game night, or Shower for the classic bridal shower version with answers recorded ahead. It deals the questions, hides the answers and keeps the score. All 150 questions are listed below.
How do you play the newlywed game for two?
- Type your names and pick decks. Classic and funny are a good start. Pick 8, 12 or 20 questions.
- Choose how you answer. Type in secret, or say it out loud if you trust each other not to change answers.
- Take the hot seat. The screen says whose question it is. That person types an answer while the other looks away, then passes the phone.
- Guess and reveal. The other partner types a guess. Both answers flip up side by side. A word-for-word match is marked for you; for anything else, the person in the hot seat decides if it counts.
- Swap every question. Round 2 is worth double, and the bonus question at the end is worth 30, so nobody is out of it until the last card.

How do you play the newlywed game at a bridal shower?
At a shower there is usually one couple. Choose Shower, type both names and pick the shower deck. Before the party, tap Send the questions to answer: the partner who is not at the shower answers on their own phone and sends the answers back to you, the host. Or ask them yourself and type the answers in. At the party, read each question, let the guest of honor guess out loud, tap Reveal and mark it a match or a miss. At the end you can copy every answer as a keepsake.
How do you host the newlywed game at a party?
The TV version first aired in 1966. One partner from each couple left the stage, the others predicted their answers, and each match won points. Then the roles swapped. You can run it the same way at home:
- Choose Party, add the couples and pick decks. The shower deck also works for engagement parties.
- Send one partner from each couple out of the room. Read the question on the screen; the others write what their partner will say.
- Bring the partners back, ask the same questions and compare. Tap a couple on the screen for each match. Tap Undo if you slip.
- Open the page on a laptop or TV and press F for full screen. Keys 1 to 8 add points to a couple, the Right arrow moves on.

Tips for a better newlywed game
- Agree on "close enough" first. "Pizza" for "pepperoni pizza" counts. "Italian food" does not. The person whose answer it is decides.
- Mix easy and hard. Two easy questions for every hard one keeps the score close and the mood light.
- Save a big one for the bonus. The last question is worth the most, so the game can turn around at the end.
- Laugh at the misses. A wrong guess is a story you have not heard yet. The end screen lists the misses so you can come back to them.
- Read the room. At family events, leave the cheeky deck off.
Knowing the small details of your partner's life is what the Gottman Institute calls a love map, and their advice is to keep updating it. Try our love map game for deeper questions, our date night games for more ideas, or date night ideas at home after the kids are in bed.
What are the limits?
- In Two of us, typed answers stay on the phone and are gone when the game ends. Nothing is saved on a server.
- The game cannot judge if a guess is close. The person whose answer it is decides.
- Party mode keeps score for one game. Write the final scores down if you want them later.
- In Shower mode, the recorded answers travel in the link you get back and are saved in your browser until you start over. Do not forward that link to the person who guesses.
FAQ
How do you play the newlywed game?
One partner answers a question about themselves without the other hearing. The other partner guesses what they said. If the answers match, the guesser scores. Swap roles each question. With a group, one partner from each couple leaves the room while the others predict their answers, then they come back and answer out loud.
How do you score the newlywed game?
The original TV show gave couples 5 points for each match. Our game uses simple house rules: 10 points a match in round 1, 20 in round 2, and 30 for the final bonus question, so the game can turn around at the end. The person whose answer it is decides if a guess is close enough.
How do you play the newlywed game at a bridal shower?
Before the shower, ask the partner who will not be there to answer 10 to 20 questions, or send them the questions with the Shower mode above so they answer on their own phone. At the shower, read each question, let the bride guess what they said, then reveal the answer. Count the matches and keep the answers as a keepsake.
How many questions do you need for a newlywed game?
About 8 to 12 for a quick game for two, and 12 to 20 for a party with several couples. Pick a mix of easy classics and a few funny ones. The game above deals any length from the 150 questions on this page.
What are good not so newlywed game questions for older couples?
Ask about the life you built together: your first home, your hardest move, family traditions, who handles the bills, favorite trips and plans for retirement. There are 30 of them in the not so newlywed deck below.
Can we play the newlywed game without a host?
Yes. Choose Two of us. The phone tells each of you when to answer and when to look away, hides the first answer, reveals both side by side and adds the points.
Are these newlywed game questions family friendly?
Yes. Every question on this page is clean. The cheeky deck is a little flirty but still PG; leave it off for family parties and showers with grandparents.
