25 fun games to play on FaceTime (with or without an app)

Published 7 min readBy Niclas Illg

Quick answer

You can play dozens of games on FaceTime with no app at all: 20 Questions, Would You Rather, Two Truths and a Lie, Charades and Pictionary all work with just your camera and voice. For real games on the call, iPhone users can start a SharePlay game from Game Center, and couples can use Cupie, a free video call app for iPhone and Android with 14 games built into the call.

The easiest games to play on FaceTime need nothing but the call itself: 20 Questions, Would You Rather, Two Truths and a Lie, Charades and Pictionary all work with just your camera and your voice. If you want real games on screen, iPhone users can start a SharePlay game from Game Center during a call. And if you're a couple who wants games built into the video call on iPhone and Android, Cupie does exactly that for free.

Below are 25 games that work on FaceTime, sorted by what you need to play them. Each one has quick rules and a twist for couples. Everything about apps and features was checked as of October 2026.

What games can you play on FaceTime with no app?

These games only need the call. They also work on a regular phone call or any video app, so they're perfect when one of you joins FaceTime from Android through a link.

1. 20 Questions

One of you thinks of a person, place or thing. The other asks up to 20 yes or no questions to guess it. Couple twist: only pick things from your relationship, like "the restaurant from our second date" or "your weird uncle."

2. Would You Rather

Take turns asking "Would you rather..." with two choices. Then explain your answer. The why is where the good talks start. Need ideas? We have a long list of Would You Rather questions for couples.

3. This or That

Fire off fast choices: beach or mountains, call or text, morning or night. No thinking allowed. Keep score of how many you match on. Our This or That questions for couples will keep you going for an hour.

4. Two Truths and a Lie

Say three facts about yourself. Two are true, one is made up. Your partner guesses the lie. It's great early in a relationship, and surprisingly hard after years together.

5. Never Have I Ever

Say something you've never done. If your partner has done it, they hold up a finger (or take a sip). Start with "never have I ever eaten a whole pizza alone" and see where it goes. Here's our list of Never Have I Ever questions for couples.

6. Truth or Dare

Classic, and it works well on video because you can watch the dare happen. Good FaceTime dares: do your best impression of me, show me the last photo you took, sing the chorus of a song I pick. See our Truth or Dare for couples list for more, from sweet to spicy.

7. Most Likely To

Ask "Who's more likely to..." and both point at the screen on the count of three. Pointing at yourself or at your partner shows who you think it is. Disagreements are the fun part.

8. 21 Questions

Each of you gets 21 questions to ask the other, and you have to answer honestly. Mix light questions with a few deep ones. Our 21 Questions game page has ready-made questions.

9. Categories

Pick a category, like snacks, Disney movies or cities. Take turns naming something in it. First one to freeze for five seconds loses the round.

10. Last Letter

Say a word. Your partner says a word that starts with the last letter of yours. Animals and countries make it harder than you'd think.

11. One Sentence Story

Build a story together one sentence at a time. Start with "Once upon a time, we got lost in..." and keep going. This one even works if the video freezes, since it only needs sound.

12. Finish the Lyric

Sing the first line of a song and stop. Your partner has to finish it. Bonus points for songs that mean something to the two of you.

13. Hum That Song

Hum a song with no words. Your partner guesses it. Harder than it sounds, and very funny when one of you can't hum.

Which FaceTime games use the camera?

These are the games that make video worth it. Prop your phone up so your partner can see you from the waist up.

14. Charades

Act out a movie, song or thing without talking. Your partner guesses. Set a 60 second timer on your other device to keep it moving.

15. Pictionary

Grab paper and a marker. Draw a word, hold it up to the camera, and your partner guesses. Each of you can jot down a few words before the call so nobody runs out of ideas.

16. I Spy

Pick something in your room that's in view of the camera. Say "I spy something..." and give a color or a clue. Simple, but good for winding down before bed.

17. Scavenger Hunt

Call out an item, like "something blue," "something older than you" or "something that reminds you of me." First to show it on camera wins the point.

18. Guess the Close-Up

Hold an object very close to the camera so only a tiny bit shows. Slowly pull it back until your partner guesses what it is.

19. Simon Says

Give commands that start with "Simon says." If your partner follows one without "Simon says," they lose. It's silly, which is the point.

20. Staring Contest

First to blink or laugh loses. On video, add a rule: the other person can make faces but not talk.

Can you play real games on FaceTime?

Yes, but it depends on your phones. Here are your options.

21. SharePlay games from Game Center (iPhone only)

On iPhone, you can play supported multiplayer Game Center games with friends during a FaceTime call. Open a supported game while you're on the call and tap Start SharePlay, then follow the steps on screen. You both need a Game Center profile and the same game. You can also share your screen on a FaceTime call to show any game. The catch: Apple says SharePlay and screen sharing are not available when someone joins FaceTime on the web from Android or Windows.

22. GamePigeon in Messages (iPhone only)

GamePigeon is a free iMessage app with 24 small games like 8-Ball, Mini Golf, Cup Pong and Four in a Row. You send moves back and forth in Messages, so you'll be switching between FaceTime and your texts. It doesn't work on Android. If you want something that does, check our GamePigeon alternatives.

23. Browser games with screen share

Free browser games like skribbl.io (draw and guess, private rooms for 2 to 20 players) work on any laptop. Open the game on a computer and keep talking on your phone. That way nobody needs to juggle apps on one small screen.

What are the best games to play on FaceTime with your boyfriend or girlfriend?

Every game above works for couples. But if you FaceTime your partner every night, you'll run out of 20 Questions fast. That's why we built Cupie.

24. Cupie: games built into the video call

Cupie is a free video call app for couples on iPhone and Android. You call your partner inside the app and pick a game. It runs live on both phones while you still see each other, so there's no switching apps. Think of it as FaceTime, but you play games together.

There are 14 games: Minigolf, Four in a Row, Tic Tac Toe, Truth or Dare, Pool, Chess, Cup Pong, Match, Solo and Get Closer, plus the question decks Get Deeper, Get Romantic, Get Silly and Get Spicy. There are also 239 quizzes, including Would You Rather and Who's More Likely To. New games open up as your daily call streak grows.

It has 4.8 stars on both the App Store and Google Play as of October 2026. One reviewer wrote:

"my bf and i spend 2hours every night on cupie, we love the games but we now also just use it in general instead of facetime" - jessyjsssy, App Store

Honest limits: both of you need to download Cupie and link with a private PIN. It's only for two people, so it's not for family or group calls. There's no text chat yet, and no desktop app.

25. A couples quiz

Take turns quizzing each other: What's my coffee order? What was I wearing on our first date? What's my biggest pet peeve? Keep score and the loser plans the next date. Try our couples quiz, or play the quizzes inside Cupie on your call.

What are good FaceTime games for friends and family?

For kids and grandparents, stick to I Spy, Simon Says, 20 Questions, Charades and Scavenger Hunt. They're easy to explain and need nothing. For a group of friends, Two Truths and a Lie, Most Likely To and Categories work well with more people, since everyone can play at once. For more ideas that only need audio, see our games to play over the phone.
