Free two-player games for couples (no ads, no download)

Updated October 2026. If you want free phone games for couples without constant ads, three good picks are Cupie, Lichess and Plato. Cupie is a free video calling app for couples, on iPhone and Android, where you play games together live inside the call, with no ads. Lichess is chess with "No ads, no tracking", and Plato lists itself as "Ad-Free Fun". For no download at all, play in a browser or play a talk game on any call. We checked every "free" and "no ads" claim below against the store listing or the maker's own page.

Which free two-player games have no ads?

"No ads" here means the developer or the store says so. If we could not confirm it, we say "not confirmed".

What are free phone games for couples without constant ads?

1. Cupie: free, no ads, games on a video call

Cupie is made for two partners. You link once with a private PIN, call each other inside the app, and play games live on both phones while you see each other: Minigolf, Four in a Row, Tic Tac Toe, Truth or Dare, Pool, Chess, Cup Pong, Match, Solo and five question decks, plus 239 quizzes. Five games are open from day one, and more open as your daily call streak grows.

• Price: free to download, with no ads.
• Platforms: iPhone and Android, phone only (no web or desktop version).

2. Lichess: free chess with no ads, ever

Lichess is a free, open source chess site with a phone app. Its about page says it stays "100% free", and its app page says "No ads, no tracking". Send your partner a challenge link and play in the browser or the app.

• Best for: a chess rivalry with no paywall.
• Limit: chess only.

3. Plato: 50+ games with no ads

Plato has over 50 multiplayer games, like Pool, Mini Golf, Chess, Ludo, Dominoes and Cup Pong, with group chats, chat rooms and voice chat. Its App Store and Google Play listings say "Ad-Free Fun: Say goodbye to annoying ads and pay-to-win schemes with free games." Google Play shows no "Contains ads" label.

• Best for: lots of quick games in one app.
• Limit: optional coin packs from $0.99, and it is rated 18+ on the App Store for simulated gambling and open chat.

4. Discord Activities: games inside a call

Discord lets you start Activities like Chess In The Park, Putt Party and Blazing 8s from a call, on mobile, desktop or web. Discord is free; Google Play shows in-app purchases (Nitro) but no ad label.

• Best for: couples who already use Discord.
• Limit: it is built for groups and servers, so it is busier than a couples app.

Can couples play games online without downloading anything?

Yes, two ways.

5. Board Game Arena: real board games in the browser

Board Game Arena says "No download necessary - play directly from your web browser" on PC, Mac, iOS and Android, and that playing is free. Premium costs $5 a month or $42 a year and adds more games.

• Best for: couples who like board games.
• Limit: we could not find an official statement on ads for free accounts, so we don't list it as "no ads". Some games need a Premium member to start the table.

6. Lichess in the browser

Lichess also runs at lichess.org in any phone or computer browser. It is the cleanest no-download, no-ads game we found.

7. Talk games: no app, no ads, no download

The most ad-free game is one you play with your voices. These work on any phone or video call:

• 20 Questions: one thinks of something, the other has 20 yes or no questions.
• Would You Rather: two choices, explain your pick. Try our would you rather questions for couples.
• Two Truths and a Lie: guess which story is made up.
• This or That: fast picks, no thinking. See this or that questions.
• 21 Questions: take turns asking anything. Our 21 questions game has lists.

Which games are ad-free but not free?

• Netflix games: Netflix says its games have "No ads. No extra fees. No in-app purchases." You need an active Netflix membership. Exploding Kittens, a multiplayer card game, is one of them.
• Apple Arcade: $6.99 a month or $49.99 a year, shareable with up to five people, with "No ads. No in-app purchases." Apple devices only, so it won't help an iPhone and Android couple.
• Heads Up!: $1.99 up front on the App Store, with optional extra decks. Google Play shows no ad label.

Which popular couple games have ads?

These are free and fun, but you will see ads unless you pay:

GamePigeon also only works in iMessage between Apple devices. If one of you has Android, read GamePigeon for Android: what works between iPhone and Android.

Which free couple game should you pick?

• You want to see each other and play: Cupie.
• You want a game with zero ads and zero cost: Lichess or a talk game.
• You want lots of games without ads: Plato.
• You don't want to install anything: Lichess or Board Game Arena in a browser.
