Quick answer
Tap your sign and their sign, or enter birthdays. You get a compatibility score, a reading written for your pair, five scores (love, communication, trust, fun, long term), a date idea and two questions to ask each other. With both birthdays it adds Venus and Mars signs. It also ranks your best matches and shows all 144 pairs in a chart.
Tap your sign and their sign, and this free zodiac compatibility calculator shows your match at once: a score, a reading written for your exact pair, five smaller scores (love, communication, trust, fun and long term), a date idea and two questions to ask each other. Add both birthdays and it also works out your Venus, Mars and Mercury signs, for how you love, what draws you in and how you talk. No ads, no sign-up, and it works offline.
How does the zodiac compatibility calculator work?
- Tap your sign, then theirs. Each sign shows its dates, so you can check on the spot. Prefer birthdays? Switch to Use birthdays: the calculator finds the signs and warns you if a birthday is on a cusp.
- Read your match. Each of the 78 sign pairs has its own title and line, plus the classic name for how your signs relate (like a trine or a square), what each sign brings, why it works and where it rubs.
- Go deeper with birthdays. With both birthdays, the calculator finds each Venus sign (how you love) and Mars sign (how you go after what you want) and mixes them into your score.
- Try something together. Every pair gets a date idea and two questions to ask each other, matched to your elements.
- Share it or explore. Send the result as a link or save an image for your story. Under the result, Your best matches ranks all twelve signs for you, and the chart shows all 144 pairs.
How is zodiac compatibility calculated?
Astrologers usually look at three things when they compare two sun signs, and the calculator uses the same three:
- The distance between the signs on the wheel. Signs four steps apart (a trine) share an element and score highest. Two steps apart (a sextile) is easy and friendly. Opposite signs attract. Three steps apart (a square) brings friction and sparks.
- The elements. Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) and water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces). Fire and air feed each other; earth and water hold each other.
- The modalities. Cardinal signs start things, fixed signs keep them going, mutable signs adapt. This shapes how you make decisions together.
The scores are the same in both directions: Leo and Libra is the same match as Libra and Leo. A small, fixed adjustment per pair keeps two trines from looking identical. With both birthdays, Venus and Mars count for 40 percent of the score. Their positions are calculated in your browser from the orbital elements NASA JPL publishes in Approximate Positions of the Planets. Close to a sign line, birth time can matter, and the result says so.
Which zodiac signs are most compatible?
In classic astrology, the easiest matches are signs of the same element (trines) and signs of friendly elements two steps apart (sextiles). For example:
- Fire with fire or air: Aries and Leo, Leo and Sagittarius, Aries and Gemini, Leo and Libra.
- Earth with earth or water: Taurus and Virgo, Virgo and Capricorn, Taurus and Cancer, Capricorn and Pisces.
- Air with air or fire: Gemini and Libra, Libra and Aquarius, Aquarius and Sagittarius.
- Water with water or earth: Cancer and Scorpio, Scorpio and Pisces, Scorpio and Virgo.
Low scores are not a verdict. A square pairing, like Leo and Scorpio, is famous for chemistry. Under your result, Your best matches shows the full ranking for your sign.
Is zodiac compatibility real?
Treat it as a fun conversation starter, not a test. In a well-known double-blind study published in Nature in 1985, astrologers could not match birth charts to personality profiles better than chance (Carlson, A double-blind test of astrology). That is why this page says for fun, and why each result ends with things to do together. How you talk, play and treat each other tells you far more than your signs do.

FAQ
How do I calculate zodiac compatibility?
Tap your sun sign and your partner's sign in the calculator above, or enter both birthdays. You get a score from the distance between the signs, their elements and their modalities, plus a reading for your pair.
Which zodiac signs are most compatible?
In classic astrology, signs of the same element (trines, like Leo and Sagittarius) and friendly elements two signs apart (sextiles, like Taurus and Cancer) score highest. Opposite signs, like Aries and Libra, are known for strong attraction.
Which zodiac signs are least compatible?
Signs three steps apart (squares, like Taurus and Leo) and five steps apart (quincunx, like Aries and Virgo) score lowest because their elements clash. Low scores are not a verdict; many happy couples have them.
Can I check compatibility by birthday?
Yes. Tap Use birthday under each sign and enter the date. The calculator finds the sun sign and tells you if the birthday is on a cusp, so you can check the next sign too.
Is zodiac compatibility accurate?
No. It is for fun. In a double-blind study published in Nature in 1985, astrologers could not match birth charts to personality profiles better than chance. Use your result as a conversation starter.
Why does this calculator use sun, Venus and Mars signs only?
Sun, Venus and Mars signs need only a birthday. Moon and rising signs need an exact birth time and place, which many people do not know. Near a sign line, the result tells you birth time could shift a sign.
